ABOUT

The Lower Coquitlam River Nature Association (formerly the Colony Farm Park Association) is a not-for-profit organization in BC’s Lower Mainland. We work in partnership with Metro Vancouver Parks at Tlahatum Regional Park to promote nature connectedness and education in a manner that respects the environment, the wishes of the general community and the Kwikwetlem First Nation.

The Park Association was founded in 1997 after formally named Colony Farm became a regional park in 1995, several years after a campaign was launched for its protection by the Burke Mountain Naturalists and others. Prior to it being established a park, the land had lain vacant for 12 years after closure of the government-operated farm. Since then,  the meadows and berry-laden shrubs at Colony Farm evolved into a vital sanctuary for countless wildlife species. The area quickly gained a reputation not only as a refuge for animals, but also as a cherished destination for people seeking to walk, cycle, or bird-watch along its scenic dike trails.

For over 30 years, we’ve been connecting people with nature through bird walks, stewardship activities, and bat monitoring. We’re also passionate advocates for keeping the park public and protecting it from corporate interests and projects that could harm the environment.
